Costume Ideas For Toddlers and Babies

Are you looking for a unique Halloween costume idea for your toddler or baby but are having trouble coming up with one? Finding a costume for your toddler or baby that's different from the norm can be a challenge. You don't want to put them in something uncomfortable, or use toxic face paints they may get in their mouths, or need to have props they could hurt themselves with. That pretty much leaves you with the usual animal, pumpkin, cartoon, or Disney character costume.

Rather than trying to come up with some elaborate costume idea though, one of those usual ideas may be your best bet. The little ones tend to like to dress up as their favorite animal, or their favorite character. While older children tend to go for a Halloween costume that's scary, like a vampire or a headless zombie, these ideas may be too unsettling for your toddler. If you have an infant, they're probably too young to know the difference, however the things you would need for a costume like that would be too uncomfortable or dangerous to your baby.

Most toddlers already have favorite television or storybook characters, and they'll love dressing up like them! Actually, you may have a hard time keeping them out of their Halloween costume! Now you may be thinking to yourself that your child would be just adorable dressed up like Mickey Mouse, or Superman, or one of the characters you're familiar with from your childhood. Your child, however, may have their own ideas of who they want to be. If they're old enough to talk, then most likely they have their own opinion! Characters are changing all the time. Some of the popular ones these days include the Backyardigans, Bratz, and any kind of animal. There are still some old favorites hanging around also, such as Winnie the Pooh, Dr. Seuss, and Disney. If you're not sure, just ask your child.

The good thing about these costumes is that it's easier on YOU. It's so much easier to just order or pick up a ready-made costume. Rentals are normally available also in these characters, but you may have a problem when it comes time to return it. Your little one may not be so anxious to give up their favorite costume. Plus, by buying the costume you don't have to worry about your toddler spilling his drink on it, or your baby getting baby messes on it.

When purchasing your child's costume, be certain to pay attention to what you're getting. Some costumes are made better than others, and of course you want to pay attention to any safety hazards. Make sure the costume is non-flammable and has no choking hazards.

If you have the time, you may be able to provide a homemade Halloween costume for toddlers and babies.  A onesie or one-piece suit with a hood makes a great starting point for animal costumes. All you need to do is add a tail, some ears, and paint on some whiskers and/or a nose and you have a costume! If you don't have a hood, you can sew some ears on a soft headband. You can normally find what you need in craft stores for a very good price. You can also "borrow" the pieces you need off of a stuffed animal, or a hand-me-down costume.

These Halloween costumes for toddlers and babies are simple to make or buy and are comfortable and safe for your child.  Whatever you or your child chooses, they will look adorable this Halloween and will be sure to get lots of candy for Mom and Dad! Happy Halloween!

Wireless Baby Monitors

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Your baby is the most precious thing in your life. If it is only possible to watch over him or her day in day out then you would. Unfortunately you are not robots that do need sleep, eat and rest. You are only humans bound by physiologic limitations. So to aid you with your wanting to watch your baby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you may want to consider using wireless baby monitors night and day.

What are Baby Monitors?

Baby monitors are devices, either audio or video, that can help you check up on your baby even if you are not physically present with him or her. This is most helpful to parents who need to be constantly on the go but still want to watch over their baby while doing other productive activities.

When are Baby Monitors Useful?

Most people think that baby monitors are only useful at night during the sleeping periods of both the child and the parents. This, however, is not the case. You can actually use baby monitors even during the day when you have other things to do around the house like cooking or other household preparations.

Wireless VS Wired Baby Monitors

Video and audio baby monitors can either be wired or wireless. Both modes have their own advantages and disadvantages. But as of today, parents usually prefer the wireless devices over wired ones for reasons of mobility.

With wireless devices, parents can go anywhere around the house while still being able to keep tabs over their babies. The only setbacks of wireless baby monitors are that it can be more expensive to wired devices and they are also prone to interference.

Wireless Baby Monitors: Solving Interference Problems

Issues of interference with wireless devices have been the long time concern of parents who use wireless baby monitors. Instead of the device being able to help parents, interference turns them into annoyances. So for those who are experiencing this kind of problem, here are a few tips on how to minimize interference with your wireless baby monitor.

1) Signals coming from wireless devices usually clash with other signals from other wireless devices running on the same frequency. When this clashing occurs, wireless interference occurs. So to avoid interference, change the frequency of your baby monitor every once in a while and make sure that the frequency you use does not clash with frequencies of other devices.

To change frequencies, wireless baby monitors are equipped with a switch that lets parents change frequency easily.

2) Another way to help in solving wireless interference is to find a proper location for the transmitter as well as for the receiver (baby unit and the parents’ unit). So where should you place your wireless baby monitor to minimize wireless interference?

You need to place it as far away as possible from other devices especially wireless ones. This includes router and wireless/ cordless phones. The baby’s and parents’ units should also be placed as far away from the microwave oven since it can also cause great interference.

3) If you have money to splurge on these kinds of devices, you can go for digital baby monitors instead of the analog ones. Digital technology has incorporated fixes to help solve the issue of interference.

These are some of the best solutions that parents can take to minimize wireless interference. They may not be able to eliminate interference totally but they can help in minimizing their occurrence.
